Plaza de Ponchos

Every Saturday morning droves of tourist buses come in with foreigners from around the globe to Plaza de Ponchos in the center of Otavalo. This is one of Ecuador’s largest markets filled with Kichwa people full of alpaca and wool goods, ponchos being the most famous of buys. The region is known for it’s textiles and has been successful both locally and internationally. Aside from the textiles are jewelry, wooden carvings, paintings of the region, and other crafts. Compared to other Latin American markets vendors the Otavaleños are quite friendly, photogenic, and not aggressive. We would hang around one vendor…

Medellin’s Free Walking Tour- The beautiful, the ugly, the scars

Yearning, come to my country, see my beautiful people, shake our hands, take our hugs, see past my scars and know I haven’t been completely in charge of the history that was put in front of me but here I am, showing you the good, the bad, my city Medellin.  This was my interpretation of our tourist guide’s feelings as he walked us through his city. Happy Buddha Boutique Hostel- Medellin, Colombia

Happy Buddha Hostel is the true definition of a luxury boutique hostel. This social, hip Buddha themed hostel is tucked in Medellin’s most happening neighborhoods. With a billiards table, ping pong table, TV playing the futbol match and the Treetop Bar it comes to no surprise that it’s the starting point to most backpackers nightlife. Arriving from Panama City we checked in and were hosted for 6 nights. The service of the staff, to be able to handle the most popular hostel in Medellin, was incredible.
